This all-female and exceptional sporting event will not only allow them to surpass themselves individually, but also to support a humanitarian cause that is close to their hearts. Together, they embark on this unique epic, combining performance, sharing And solidarity.
Back to basics: a moving journey
Twelve years after their first discovery of Cambodia, Hélène and Marie Coomans find themselves under the Cambodian sun, ready to experience a new adventure together. “It’s quite moving to think that we are going to experience a new journey together, in the same country,” confides Hélène, who is preparing to leave the Amazon Raid on November 21. Their new project takes them to the podium in an exhilarating competition, alongside 240 other women. The members of their team, nicknamed “The Gascon Amazons”, are ready to make a name for themselves during this 25th edition of the raid.
A sporting challenge for women
This raid represents a significant challenge, especially as an all-female event. “We like sporting challenges and the fact that this event is 100% feminine and also combines sharing with the population appealed to us,” explains Hélène. As general practitioners based in Riscle, they team up with two friends from Béarn, known as “The Amazons of Béarn”. Between mountain biking, canoeing, trail running and archery, they will have to show determination, even if they realize that their favorite sports styles are slightly different.
A commitment to solidarity
This adventure is not limited to sporting competition; it is also synonymous withcommitment humanitarian. Each afternoon will be dedicated to meetings with the local population, allowing us to forge valuable links. The raid is intended to be a human challenge which offers participants the opportunity to immerse themselves in Cambodian culture and discover its riches. “We really want this experience to be enriching both for us and for the people we are going to meet,” adds Hélène.
For the benefit of the Arc-en-Ciel association
What really pushed the two healthcare professionals to participate was the solidarity aspect of the raid. This edition supports the association To each his own Everest, which supports children with cancer and women in remission. In addition, Hélène and Marie will support the association Rainbow, engaged in animation and sharing at the Riscle nursing home. “This is an organization that we come into contact with through our profession and that we therefore wanted to support,” explains Hélène.
An adventure that continues after the raid
The challenge does not end with the end of the raid. On their return, Hélène and Marie plan to organize a small tea party with Cambodian flavors, followed by a presentation of photos and highlights of their stay. “For us, the key word of this unique experience is and will remain: sharing“, they declare with enthusiasm. This continued commitment beyond the event testifies to their passion and their desire to make a difference, not only on the way to Cambodia, but also in their local community.
Together, they embody the true spirit of Amazon Raid, where every step counts and solidarity is at the heart of the adventure.
