THE Amazon Raid, launched in 2001, is an exclusively female raid that places pride of place on solidarity and team spirit. The participants, often from different backgrounds, compete in six sporting events, including archery, of trail, of Mountain biking, from the orienteering, of run & bike and of canoe. Every year, thousands of women embark on this adventure, in a different country. Manon and Justine have decided to take on this stimulating challenge which promises to become a milestone in their lives.
Preparation: a journey strewn with pitfalls
This participation in the Amazon Raid was carefully considered by our two protagonists. After two decades of playing basketball together, the choice to take on a challenge driven by a spirit of camaraderie seemed obvious. Manon says: “ Participating in a raid has been talked about for years. » It was only in May, only a few months before departure, that they made the decision to register. This initiative, however, requires rigorous preparation, both on a sporting and financial level.
Each participant must raise a budget of €4,200, a task which can prove delicate, especially for Manon and Justine who are used to treating others as physiotherapists. Justine admits: “ Approaching people, convincing them, we’re not used to doing that. » Despite everything, the support of the Quimper community was invaluable, making it possible to raise funds quickly to validate their registration.
The importance of training
To prepare for the various tests, Manon and Justine sought help from Archers of Odet. They admit to having no prior experience in the archery, but thanks to the commitment of local archers, they train every Wednesday. “ We went to see the archers who agreed to take us under their wing,” says Manon, visibly enthusiastic. They combine this training with their other sporting activities to prepare themselves as well as possible.
Support from charitable associations
The Raid Amazones also aims to support important causes. Part of the funds raised by Manon and Justine will be intended forOligocyte Brittany association and the other to the association To each their own Everest, in partnership with the event organizers.
